Ramson Day 2013

Written by Pete Fillery. Posted in Features

This was our third Ramsons Day and was very successful with tastings of ramson omelette, scones, pesto and even ramson chocolate!

This is the first year that the ramsons haven’t been in flower for Ramsons Day which we held on 27th April, they're just on their way out now but thought we'd share some photos and recipes from the day...

The turbulent weather didnt put anyone off the food tasting, we gave out over 100 plants, information leaflets and the children enjoyed getting their faces, arms and more painted with ramson flower designs! It was all very well recieved resulting in over £80 worth of donations!

For those that want to try making some really simple but totally delicious ramson omelettes, check out Eat Weeds recipe for The Perfect Wild Garlic Omlette!

The Eat Weeds site is full of fantastic recipes - Last year's effort involved getting my daughter to help me make ramson cheese, I’m not normally a fan of goats cheese but this recipe has changed my mind forever! So easy to make and soo tasty… Check out the photos below or with instruction at http://on.fb.me/I2Xf6y

One of our youngest members Sammy made her mums fabulous 'Cheese and wild garlic muffins', to find out how you can too, click on the photo below:

News of 'Ramson Day' is spreading and this year we got a mention in a delightful ode to Ramsbottom, entitled:

Ramsbottom, Valley of the Wild Garlic

Next year we may have more chocolate and there's plenty more great ways to use this plant so if you missed out this year, make sure you come along next time and find out what we've got on the menu...
